Bharat Bandh tomorrow: Farmers to block Delhi borders; transport, banking services may be hit across nation

New Delhi: Delhi Thousands of farmers protesting at various border points have announced to observe Bharat Bandh on 8 December in protest against the three new agricultural laws passed by the government. Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bahujan Samaj Party (BCP), Left parties, and other political organizations. Call for an all-India strike.

Agitating farmers have threatened to block all entry and exit points in Delhi. Due to the ongoing agitation of farmers, heavy traffic jams are being witnessed at many border points in the national capital as thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and other parts of the country have been camping at the borders for 10 days.

Notably, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has announced that it has the full support of the farmers' movement against the three agricultural laws, but the Bharat Bandh in West Bengal will not be withdrawn as it was against party principles.

Expressing solidarity with the agitating farmers, the opposition parties asked the government to withdraw the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the value of the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement, and the Value Assurance of Agreements and Agriculture. The Services Bill, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

These laws "threaten India's food security, destroy Indian agriculture and our farmers, abolish the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and hold Indian agriculture and our markets hostage."
